The WHUR World Tour 2010 went to Singapore, Bali and Vietnam in March. The group had a great time and explored many new areas. The trip also included some "down time" with relaxation at one of Bali's top resorts, the Nusa Dua Beach Resort.

I am so sorry it has been so long since I have reached out to you. We have been very busy and I have been everywhere. A bad excuse, as I am always near the internet and connected.

I have been able to travel all over since we last connected. I have been to Thailand, China, Singapore, Vietnam, all over the Caribbean, US and Southern Africa. I obviously enjoy travel and hope to share the world with our travelers and readers of this Blog. Our most recent travel has me returning yesterday from South Africa. This trip was a little different as we stayed exclusively in small luxury private game reserves. Great accommodations, luxury, spa and meals, but most important some of the BEST game drives. That is what I came for.

After arriving in J'oburg, we went to the Michelangelo Hotel in Sandton to relax and have dinner with my cousin and her family. They live close by in Sandton. The Michelangelo is one of my favorite hotels and located in Sandton in the heart of Mandela Square. Great shopping and restaurants.

The next day we flew to Port Elizabeth and drove to Port Alfred to the Oceana Private Game Reserve, Resort and Spa. Fantastic amenities and a reserve overlooking the Indian Ocean. This is definitely a FIVE STAR. The reserve surrounds the resort and includes most of the animals of Africa, except no predators. This allows the animals to be more at ease and almost tame. Our game drives were close up and personal. The meals and accommodations were terrific. To top all this off, we were the only guest. The meals were excellent and everything was whenever we wanted. We especially loved seeing the black impala and a pair of rhinos that acted like a senior husband and wife. The husband walked ahead directly on the road and the wife seemed to drag behind almost window shopping. He would look back to see if she was ok and continue on.

Next on to Tinga in the southern part of Kruger National Park. Tinga is located within Kruger and offers the best of a Private Game Reserve and Kruger. Excellent amenities and meals with game drives and walking tours in the bush. We saw all of our favorite animals including a large pride of lions, elephants, buffalo and white rhino. We were fascinated by the lion pride and the affection the adult male lions showed the females as well as their nearly mature sons. This is a strong pride with strong bonds. They are formidable to anything they go after. The park also features all the other animals and birds that make South Africa a top destination. Our ranger, Raymond knows them all.

Last stop was Ngala Reserve in central Kruger. Ngala is adjacent to Kruger and offers game drives on and off road as well as walking tours. This is one of the reserves you want to choose if you want to be right in the animals. Do not venture out at night without your guides and lock the doors as the baboons and monkeys know how to work the doors. The Big Five are all around you here. We saw Lions, Buffalo, Elephant, Rhino, Crocks and Leopard. We saw Hyenas take a new kill from a Leopard, a new young pride of Lions with five brothers that will some day rule that area and a herd of elephants that will always be on top. This is where you need to go if you want to see and experience it all. Derrick is an excellent Ranger and Jonas, our tracker goes off walking and always finds the animals.

Wow have we been busy. We finished the One Love Cruise and are working with Radio One on the One Love Cruise 2010. Also did extensive study work on Medical Tourism, this mostly for The Traveling Eye Radio Show. Great shows on travel every Friday at 11am on WVON 1690 Chicago.

On the road a lot including SE Asia, to finalize The WHUR Wold Tour 2010 to Singapore and Bali. This will be a great trip. Also checking out cruiselines as well as resorts in Jamaica and Curacao.

Just finished bookings for the Urban Weekend Getaway in D.R. and the Soul Beach Music Festival in Aruba. Both over Memorial Day Weekend. Two great events.

The Traveling Eye did a show on, and will be leading a group to Egypt this October. There are still a few seats left for those who want to go. Also did a great show on Legal Travel to Cuba. First Quarter Done...

Hello Fellow World Travelers,

We are finished with the first quarter of 2009. Can anyone see the light at the end of the tunnel; perhaps a candle? I believe that we are at least going in the right direction.

I have been on travel (nothing new there). We all went to DC for the Inauguration and we did The Traveling Eye radio show live from one of the parties and covered all the events. I am from DC and rarely have I seen it so cold. Thank goodness for the crowds. As crowded as the city was, rarely were the people so friendly and happy.

Next on to Hong Kong and Macau (Macao). After returning from Mainline China (PRC) only a couple of months before, boy is Macau different. I am not a big fan of casinos, but if you are, this is a great destination. I prefer the Chinese and Portugese culture. I like the history and the varieties of people. Where else can you see signs in Chines and Portugese. Hong Kong is still a great seeing and shopping destination. Macau and Hong Kong are only a short ferry ride apart so you can combine them.

Just back from Thailand. Doing research on Medical and Wellness Tourism. Asia is one of the top destinations for both with so much variety, top quality and excellent prices. Whether you want to get a facelift and a five star vacation and nobody will be the wisest, or rejuvenation of mind and body to come back and take on the world, they have it. I personally love Asia and keep it on the top of my list.

Hello Fellow World Travelers,

Wow, I am so sorry I have gotten back to you since September. The combination of travel for Advantage International, LLC and The Traveling Eye Radio show has kept me on the road.

I got the chance to return to Jamaica in Fall 2008. My visit was doing the "Bites, Beats and Best of Jamaica" celebration at Grand Lido Braco. I love that resort and the service and events are great for couples. If you visit, at least once stay in and enjoy Dinner in your room with Champagne. In October, I was in Singapore and enjoyed one of the cleanest and nicest cities in the world. Drove north to Indonesia and added this country to destinations I love. I ended up in October in LA and traveled from Long Beach on a Halloween Cruise that was fun for families and couples. Quite a different way to spend Halloween.

In November I was back in China on a little "Shop to you Drop" excursion. I always love China not just for the great accommodations, history and cuisine, but also for the shopping. Whether it is Jade, Cloisonne, Silk, artwork or tailored items, China is great. Of course you also have the shops selling top quality "Knock-offs". I feel most people pay for their trips with the savings from shopping, especially for Christmas.

The Traveling Eye was live from numerous destinations from Dallas, TX to Spain in the 4th quarter of 2008. Good Morning from Vietnam...

Just back from Ho Chi Minh City, (formerly Saigon) what a vibrant and upcoming city. Many of the conviences of a modern city with the appeal of a city that has absorbed the influnces of France, China and America. Ho Chi Minh City has added top modern hotel chains to top hotels built in the 1920's. Many well known stores from Europe and America have added to the small market stalls, antique shops and night markets.

Ho Chi Minh City is buzzing with new developments, office complexes and condos and malls. Right out of town you can see Vietnam the way it has been for many of years. Visit farms, temples and towns.

For Veterans of the Vietnam (American) War, visit old war sights, battlefields, the War Museum, The Reconciliation Palace and Cu Chi Tunnel. Stay at the hotel that use to be the American Officers Club, see the many sites and reminince with both Northern and Southern Vietnamese Veterans and see/discuss the many changes that have become the new Vietnam.

We'll I am back from the Philippines. Beautiful country of 7000+ Islands. Had the opportunity to visit Manila, Corregidor, Cebu, Mactan, Bohol and Pangalusa. Fantastic resorts, great food and activities. Many thanks to all that coordianted the stay and our friends at the Hyatt, Shngri-La and El Nido Resorts. Loved the Scuba Diving and the snorkeling as well as Kayaking. The people are so friendly they make you sad to leave.

For history, great cuisine, luxury accommodations and culture, the Philippines is a top location. I will also remeber the natural beauty and the fine mesh of Spanish, American and Asian cultures all in one nation. Add the Philippines to your list of places to go.

A Tough Summer to Travel ?

We'll, we are down a few airlines, you will be charged if you try and bring a second bag, and the fuel surcharges are getting close to the airfare. Some flights may cost more than previous complete vacations. So that Summer vacation may be more expensive than in the past. Of course with gasoline going above $4.00 a gallon, the trip in the family car may not be the best option. As the dollar continues to drop, you need to plan early and do a little extra work to get the best vacation. Singapore & Bali

Wow,

Just back from Singapore and Bali and what a great trip. The Advantage Preferred Trips are very special to all of us. They allow a small group of "friends" to see some of the top destinations in the world in the comfort of a small group. Our little family of 20 included folks from all over the US, most past travelers. Many of us had not been together on a trip in years and it felt great.

Singapore was excellent. This is truly one of the top destinations in the world. from the start on Singapore Airlines through the brand new airport terminal 3, our welcome and travel to Singapore was wonderful. The Marina Mandarin Hotel offered 5 star service, amenities and location. Singapore was great for those who wanted to SPA (I learned too much about Ear Candling), Shopping and great food. The party scene is alive and well.

Bali did not let us down either. The Nusa Dua Spa and resort was as picturesque as a tour book. The Balinese people are friendly and the rooms were great. We perfected "lounging" as we did as promised and camped near the pool all day and partied all night.

We are all looking forward to sharing the sites and memories soon. I look forward to the excellent photos of Bill Williams. If you would like to see them, stay tuned and I will post the website for them shortly.

Wow, my Fellow World Travelers...

Just back with 98 of my closest "Family". Yes Family. That is what you are after seeing South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia together. We shared all from Game drives, River cruises, Victoria Falls, and Bungee Jumping.

What a great trip, and it was made even better by the folks we shared it with. We did so much. Thanks to all that helped us donate needed school supplies and a library to the school in Soweto. Special thanks to Cheryl Burton for the needed computer to the school. We all had to shed a tear of pride to see students come out on a Sunday to thank us. Also thanks to all that helped us feed over 200 families at the Informal Settlement. Those bags of food will help many.

We had a great time at the luxury hotels and lodge, relaxing and getting pampered. We all ate too much, but worked it off on Game Drives and the river safari's. Victoria Falls was fantastic and we are all now part of the Zulu Nation.

It will take me a while to fully digest all we did and all the friends (Family)we made. This will be a trip for the memory file. I will now take Bungee Jumping at Victoria Falls off my "to do" list. What a trip...

I wish you enough

This was sent to me by a friend. Please read it and share it.

Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the departure. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said, "I love you and I wish you enough".

The daughter replied, "Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom".

They kissed and the daughter left. The mother walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see she wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on her privacy but she welcomed me in by asking, "Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?".

"Yes, I have," I replied. "Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?".

"I am old and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the next trip back will be for my funeral," she said.

"When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough'. May I ask what that means? ".

She began to smile. "That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone". She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled! Even more. "When we said , 'I wish you enough', we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them". Then turning toward me, she shared the following as if she were reciting it from memory.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.

I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.

I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

She then began to cry and walked away.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire lifetime to forget them.

On the Road

Just returning from the road. Our policy has always been to see the destinations we promote and sell. This keeps us quite busy, but what a great job.

Had the pleasure of going thru SE Asia this time. Started in Thailand and became reaquainted to so many top hotels and resorts. The sites and sounds are as fascinating as ever, with so many options for shopping, culture and history. Great properties and food add to a tradition of service that proves why Thailand is one of the great destinations in the world.

Took my first trip to Cambodia. Unlike my counterpart who has visited Angkor Wat, the Temples and spas of this great region, I choose Phnom Penh to see this Capital City of Cambodia. To see the the growth and evolution of this city and to visit the "Killing Fields", to learn more about this period of Cambodian history.

I have always wanted to visit Vietnam. This country was so much of the daily discussion of my youth and I have both friends and relatives that served there. Ho Chi Minh City(formerly Saigon)is a modern and dynamic city. Top hotels, restaurants and shopping are everywhere. The people are very friendly and many speak English.I found a lot of American's there on visit. Many are former GI's, some with their families, looking for familiar sites. The musuems are full of all the items we left behind and you can tour everywhere, including the old "rat hole" Cu Chi Tunnels of the war.

There are many areas in SE Asia easily accessible from Singapore and Thailand. You can use either as your base and visit many other countries within one hour flight time. You have excellent accommodations, great spas, beaches, culture, cuisine and the history of thousands of years all around you. The pricing is excellent and many times may be a better value then a comparable trip to Europe. We are looking forward to taking individuals and groups to explore this wonderful land.

Travel Documentation for Cruises

If you are confused on the current travel document requirements for your cruise, you’re not alone! Keeping on top of the changes in travel documentation for U.S. travelers within the Western Hemisphere has become a full-time job and here is some info from CLIA (the Cruise Lines International Association) The very best advice is to check with the cruise line directly, as travel documentation varies by line and itinerary. Overall, you are encouraged to apply for a passport if you do not already have one.

While U.S. residents are not yet required to obtain passports for cruise travel from U.S. ports within the Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada and Mexico, they still must show proof of identity and citizenship in order to board a cruise ship. At the point of embarkation, cruise passengers are asked to present a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license) along with proof of citizenship in the form of a:
Passport (or official proof of application*)
Original or certified copy of birth certificate
Naturalization papers (for U.S. Naturalized citizens)
*Cruise lines are allowing official proof of passport application as an acceptable proof of citizenship; this has changed since a previous e-mail.

No Passport...No Problem????

WASHINGTON (June 8) - The Bush administration on Friday suspended some of its new, post-Sept. 11 requirements for traveling abroad, hoping to placate Congress and irate summer travelers whose vacations have been thwarted by delays in processing their passports.

The proposal would temporarily lift a requirement that U.S. passports be used for citizens flying to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The suspension should allow the State Department to catch up with a massive surge in applications that has overwhelmed passport processing centers since the rule took effect this year. The resulting backlog has caused up to three-month delays for passports and ruined or delayed the travel plans of thousands of Americans.

Until the end of September, travelers will be allowed to fly without a passport if they present a State Department receipt, showing they had applied for a passport, and government-issued identification, such as a driver's license. Those without passports would receive additional security scrutiny, which could include extra questioning or bag checks.

Calling Home

Most of us take vacations to get away, while others feel that they need to stay connected. The days of not being able to "reach out and touch someone" while away are long gone. There are very few places where you can honestly state that you will be unreachable, even when you want to.

The big factor is cost. Many hotels stateside and around the world charge large fees to even connect for a call. The cost for the long distance added to the hotel fees can make it more economical to just bring them with you. There are still other options to save money and stay connected.

Buy a calling card. You can get one from your US Carrier or buy one before you leave the US. You will need to verify that the card works at the destination you are going to and how to use it. Also remember, that the hotel will still charge connection fees. If you do not like to call from a payphone, look below.

Bring your cell phone with you. Many of today's cellphones allow you to make and recieve calls in many countries around the world. You can contact your cell phone carrier for details. You may need to activate the service to make and recieve calls. You may even save more if you pay a small fee for international calling plans. Check with your carrier for details and pricing.

Use the Internet. There are new services called Internat Phone Services that allow you to download software and use your computer to make phone calls. You need to add a microphone and headphone, and you can call through your laptop from virtually anywhere your computer connects. The hotel may still have an Internet fee.

Rent a phone. You can rent a cellphone in advance and leave that phone number for friends and family or upon arrival, rent one at the destination. Either way allows you to know in advance what it will cot you to make and recive calls. This allows you to have a phone with you 24/7.

Tips for Healthy Travel

It is important to focus on your health and well-being when traveling. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, like water and fruit juice. Limit alcohol and caffeine intake - they cause dehydration. Also, apply moisturizing cream helps. Be careful when lifting. Use both hands when retrieving objects from the overhead compartment to avoid strains and sprains. Increase circulation by walking around and standing. Breathe slowly and deeply to increase oxygen flow and help you relax. Avoid crossing your legs and stretch frequently.

You can also try:

Ankle twirls: Lift your feet and twirl your feet in a circular fashion for several seconds.
Foot pumps: Keep your heels on the floor and lift your toes as high as possible for a few seconds and repeat as desired.
Knee lifts: Hold your knee with both hands and lift your knee toward your chest. Hold this stretch for 15 seconds and let your knee down. Repeat with the other knee.
Finger and toe stretch: Clench fingers (toes) inward and then stretch them outward. Repeat several times with hands and feet.
Shoulder rolls: Lift your shoulders upward and then move them in a circular fashion for about 30 seconds.
Neck roll: Drop your right ear toward your right shoulder and gently roll your head forward to the left side. Then roll your head in the same fashion toward the right side. Repeat several times.
Hug stretch: Bring your right hand over your left shoulder and your left hand behind your right elbow. Gently pull the elbow toward your body and hold for a few seconds. Do the same with your left elbow. Repeat several times.

Passport Problems

Well now, you got your passport and you are ready to go. Or are you. It is best to frequently look over your passport and to know the rules of the country you are going to. Many countries will require your passport to be valid for at least six months after your arrival. Many others that require visas, will have you have at least two clear pages before travel. Try not to allow the stamps be spread out all over your passport and give yourself enough time for renewals or to add new pages.

Staying Healthy on the Road

When you are always on the go, it is always Cold & Flu Season somewhere. That added to the strain of travel can take a toll on your health. There are little things you can do on the road and at home to stay healthy and enjoy the world.

Eat Yogurt: Yes, the same tip Ja'Vonne gives all our travelers; to have the yogurt each morning is true. Some studies have shown that eating a daily cup of low-fat yogurt can reduce your susceptibility to colds by 25 percent. Researchers think the beneficial bacteria in yogurt may stimulate production of immune system substances that fight disease.
Take a walk: Now you thought our walking tours were just to see the sights. Aerobic exercise speeds up the heart to pump larger quantities of blood; makes you breathe faster to help transfer oxygen from your lungs to your blood; and makes you sweat once your body heats up. These exercises help increase the body's natural virus-killing cells.
Eat a salad: Fresh vegetables (Properly washed and prepared by you, in the hotel or recommended restaurants) are the way to health. The natural chemicals in plants give the vitamins in food a supercharged boost. So put away the vitamin pill, and eat dark green, red, and yellow vegetables and fruits.
WASH YOU HANDS: Most cold and flu viruses are spread by direct contact. Someone who has the flu sneezes onto their hand, and then touches something. The germs can live for hours -- only to be picked up by the next person who touches the object. Wash your hands often. No sink? Rub your hands together very hard for a minute or so with a hand sanitizer or even a moisturizer. That also helps break up cold germs. Also carry and use tissues.
Stay Hydrated: Water flushes your system, washing out the poisons as it rehydrates you. A typical, healthy adult needs eight 8-ounce glasses of fluids each day. How can you tell if you're getting enough liquid? If the color of your urine runs close to clear, you're getting enough.
Get up, get out and get some Fresh Air: A regular dose of fresh air is important, especially in cold weather when central heating dries you out and makes your body more vulnerable to cold and flu viruses. Also, during cold weather more people stay indoors, which means more germs are circulating in crowded, dry rooms.
Relax, Refresh, Simply...Mellow Out: If you can teach yourself to relax, you can activate your immune system on demand. There's evidence that when you put your relaxation skills into action, your interleukins -- leaders in the immune system response against cold and flu viruses -- increase in the bloodstream. Train yourself to picture an image you find pleasant or calming. Do this 30 minutes a day. Visualize that next vacation or while on tour, the beauty all around you.

APPLYING FOR YOUR FIRST PASSPORT

I know, we have talked about this for over a year, however, many of us still do not have a passport. Here is what you gotta do...

To get your first passport, you need to go in person to a US Passport Agency.
Bring with you:
* Two photographs of yourself;
* Proof of U.S. citizenship (ex: your birth certificate);
* A valid form of state or Federally issued photo identification such as a driver's license;
* A passport application form.

Passport agencies are usually a post office, government office or public library. Also Federal Buildings in major cities or sometimes town halls. You may not apply for your first passport online. To find an agency near you, visit: http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/.

Your first passport will cost $97 if you're age 16 or older. Child passports last for five years and cost $82. They are good for 10 years.

HOW LONG UNTIL YOUR PASSPORT ARRIVES?
It takes six to eight weeks for your passport to arrive. So plan ahead.

If you do not already have a passport, apply for one now. That way when the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to far and exotic desitnations. You will be ready.

Don't Leave Home Without it...

As of January 23, 2007, passports will be required for all US citizens traveling via air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Bermuda and all points in the Caribbean.

As of June 1, 2009, passports will be required for all U.S. Citizens traveling via air, land and sea between the United States and any destination.

You will soon need to use your passport as id for travel anywhere. Get a passport.

Keeping it Light on the flight

You gotta love the Canadian sense of humour. West Jet is an Airline with head office situated in Calgary, Alberta. My good friend, Steve Moore passed this on to me.

West Jet airline attendants make an effort to make the in-flight "safety lecture" and
announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

On a West Jet flight (There is no assigned seating, you just sit where you want)
passengers were apparently having a hard time choosing, when a flight attendant announced, "People, people we're not picking out furniture here, find a seat and get in it!"

wasn't the flight attendant's fault, it was the asphalt."

------------------------------ Overheard on an West Jet Airlines flight into Regina, on a particularly windy and bumpy day: During the final approach, the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Regina. Please remain in your seats with your seat belts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"

------------------------------ Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal."

--------------------- An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the Passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying our airline." He said that, in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had gotten off except for a little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?" "Why, no, Ma'am," said the pilot. "What is it?" The little old lady said, "Did we land, or were we shot down?"

------------------- After a real crusher of a landing in Halifax, the attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Captain Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we will open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal."

You can bring your carry-on on the plane again, with exceptions. When you bring your bag onboard, you save time by avoiding lines at the check-in counter and waiting at baggage claim so you can ease in and out of the airport.

A few things to remember:
Liquids, gels and aerosols in containers that are 3 oz./90ml or less and packed in one clear zip-top 1-quart plastic bag are now allowed through the screening checkpoint. Be prepared to have all of your liquids, gels and aerosols in the one clear bag.

The zip-top bag may need to be presented separately at airport security so make sure it is easily accessible when you approach the screening area. Zip-top bags may be provided if needed, but it is best to have your own, andrememberr if it is not in the one clear zip lock bag, it cannot go in the carry-on.

Recent changes have also allowed beverages and toiletries purchased inside the airport beyond the security checkpoints to be allowed onboard the aircraft. Verify at your airport that these items will be allowed on the plane before you purchase them.

Changes come frequently and you should check with your airline and TSA before you fly.

Increased Aviation Screening Procedures:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be implementing a series of security measures (some visible and some not visible) to ensure the security of the traveling public and the nation's transportation system. In addition, the TSA is immediately implementing the following changes to airport screening procedures:

- No liquids or gels of any kind will be permitted in carry on baggage. Such items must be in checked baggage. This includes all beverages, shampoo, sun tan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.

Exception: Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling; prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket; and insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines, which all must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.

- Beverages purchased in the boarding area (beyond the checkpoint) must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted on board the aircraft.

- Passengers traveling from the U.K. to the U.S. will be subject to a more extensive screening process.

These new temporary regulations will be for every flight originating in the U.S. regardless of destination, and will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant. Updates will be posted at www.dhs.gov in the section entitled "threats and protection".

In addition, travelers are advised to allow additional time for anticipated delays.

How every passenger can assist in security:
- Pack lightly, without clutter to facilitate easier screening
- Arrive earlier than usual at the airport: 3 hrs International/ 2 hrs domestic
- Cooperate with TSA personnel at checkpoints and with airline personnel at gates
- Be attentive and vigilant to any suspicious activity and report it to authorities.

Many credit cards offer security features and can lock in the best exchange rates. Do reach out to your credit card companies before you go. They can help or:

It is always best to know your rights before you go. Each airline may have different procedures, but these guidelines will help.

Your Tickets
Reservations: Once you have a confirmed reservation, you are confirmed on the flight even if there is no record of your reservation in the airline's computer system. If you have a ticket that shows a confirmed reservation for a specific flight and date, an agent cannot deny you boarding because you have no reservation in the computer. If you don't show up for a flight and fail to cancel the reservation, you are considered a no-show and the airline can cancel any continuing or return reservations.
Lost Tickets: Refunds can be difficult, sometimes impossible, to obtain if tickets are lost or stolen. Your ticket number may be shown on your credit card receipt or travel agency itinerary. Write it down and take it with you. You may have to buy another ticket in order to continue your trip and you may wind up paying more for the second one. Once you prove that you actually bought the ticket, the airline must begin processing your refund application, with a waiting period of two to six months.
Refunds: Refund guidelines vary from carrier to carrier, but there are certain rules that all must follow. If you paid for your ticket with cash and you have a refundable fare, you can often get an immediate refund from the carrier or travel agency. If you paid by personal check, the refund will generally have to be mailed to you. Some tickets purchased overseas can only be refunded in that same currency and country. If you pay by credit card, you will probably be charged whether you use your tickets or not. To get a refund, you must return the unused tickets to the airline. You usually can't get a cash refund for a credit card purchase. An airline must forward a credit to your card company within seven business days after receiving a complete refund application.At The Airport
Check-In Times: Even if you have already checked in for your flight, an airline can cancel your reservation if you are not at the departure gate on time. Even if you have an advance boarding pass or have an advance seat assignment, your seat may be given to another passenger. If you do not check your baggage in sufficient time for it to be loaded on your flight the airline is not responsible for any delay in the delivery of your baggage to your destination. To avoid these problems, we recommend arriving at the airport at least two hours before departure time.
Got Your ID?: You are required to present photo ID upon check-in and at boarding. You also may be subject to a physical or electronic search throughout your travel. If you refuse to provide identification as required or refuse a physical or electronic search you will be denied boarding, or removed from a flight at any point. The airline is then obligated to refund your ticket even if it is a nonrefundable ticket.
Delays/Cancellations: Airlines are not required to compensate passengers for delayed or canceled flights. Each carrier differs in its policy and there are no federal requirements. Most will book you on the next available flight. If your plane is delayed the airline may pay for meals or a phone call, so ask. Some will offer no amenities if the delay is caused by bad weather or other conditions beyond their control. Compensation is required by law only if you are "bumped" from a flight that is oversold (discussed below).Although it is not required by law, through their own programs, many airlines are beginning to inform passengers to the causes for delays in their flights.
Overbooking/Bumping: Overbooking is legal, and most airlines do it. They are, however, required to ask people to volunteer to be bumped. If you are bumped involuntarily, you must be given a written statement describing your rights and explaining how the carrier decides who gets on an oversold flight and who doesn't and you may keep your ticket and use it on another flight. If you choose to make your own arrangements, you can request an "involuntary refund" for the ticket. You are also entitled to compensation, with a few exceptions. For example, if the airline arranges substitute transportation that is scheduled to get you to your final destination (including later connections) within one hour of your original scheduled arrival time, you get nothing.
Delayed/Lost Luggage: If your bags are delayed, airlines usually agree to pay "reasonable" expenses until they're found. The amount is subject to negotiation and you may have to fight for it. If your bags are not found you must file a claim, which takes some time to process. It is normal to wait six weeks to three months for reimbursement although some airlines are much more efficient than others. If your bags are delayed, lost or damaged on a domestic trip, the airline can invoke a ceiling of $1,250 per passenger. On international trips, the liability limit is it is limited to $9.07 per pound ($20 per kilo) by the Warsaw Convention, unless you pay for extra liability. Beware of deadlines! If you miss the check-in deadline, the carrier is not responsible for your bag if it is delayed or lost.

The Airlines' Rights:
An airline is not necessarily liable if your flight is delayed or canceled. There are some situations, such as inclement weather and "acts of God" which are deemed beyond the carriers' control. In these cases, the airline will usually refund your ticket even if it's a nonrefundable ticket, but won't be responsible for any inconvenience it may have caused you. The following is a list of situations in which an airline may legally deny you boarding or remove you from a flight on which you are confirmed.
A. If they must comply with any government regulation of space or request for emergency transportation in connection with national defense or national disasters
B. Due to weather conditions or other conditions beyond the airlines' control
C. If you refuse to permit a search of your person or property for explosives or a concealed deadly or dangerous weapon
D. You refuse to provide positive identification or don't have proper documentation for travel across international boundaries
E. your conduct is disorderly, abusive or violent
F. if you are barefoot, if you are unable to sit in the seat with seat belt fastened, if you are intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, if you attempt to interfere with any member of the flight crew or if you have a concealed or unconcealed deadly or dangerous weapon.

You can get useful information on filing a complaint there and if your complaint is in reference to airline-ticket pricing or overbooking issues, you may download forms and submit your complaint directly. Disabled Passengers:
You cannot be refused transportation on the basis of disability or be required to have an attendant or produce a medical certificate except in very limited circumstances. Airlines must provide enplaning, deplaning and connecting assistance, including both personnel and equipment. Some commuter aircraft may not be accessible to passengers with severe mobility impairments. In addition, airport terminals and airline reservations centers must have TDD telephone devices for persons with hearing or speech impairments. Passengers with vision or hearing impairments must have timely access to the same information given to other passengers at the airport or on the plane concerning gate assignments, delayed flights, safety, etc. Air carriers must accept wheelchairs as checked baggage, and cannot require passengers to sign liability waivers for them (except for pre-existing damage). Carriers must allow service animals to accompany passengers in the cabin as long as they don't block the aisle or other emergency evacuation route. FAA safety rules establish standards for passengers allowed to sit in emergency exit rows; such persons must be able to perform certain evacuation-related functions. Airlines may not charge for any of these services.

· Driving? Gas up the night before you travel; no one leaves enough time for buying gas on the way to the airport.
· Investigate your frequent flyer options to get better (and better guaranteed) seats.
· Bring diversions. Take along work, books, magazines, a CD player, and some healthy snacks -- whatever you need to get through delays. This goes double when traveling with kids.
· Keep your cool. Airline employees have considerable power over your well-being. Unfortunately many enjoy wielding it against you, and few respond well to anger.
· Have phone numbers for everything: your hotel, your car rental agency, your airline, and friends at your destination. Directory assistance is expensive, whether from your cell, from a phone booth or from home.
· Check flight status repeatedly. Know your airline's 800 number as well as your flight numbers and exact times.

· Choose nonstop flights. The worst, most brutal delays occur in connecting airports, where you have no home, friends or family to retreat to.
· Don't overpack even checked luggage; overstuffed bags that must be opened for a security check are much harder to repack.
· Do not wrap gifts, especially if you intend to carry them on the plane. Even in checked baggage, there is a strong chance they will be unwrapped for inspection by security personnel. Consider gift bags instead of wrapping paper this holiday season -- you can easily remove the items from their bags if required and you don't have to do a last-minute wrapping job at your destination.· Give your cell phone a full charge, and write down or program the phone number of your airline so you can call easily as your flight time approaches.

The Color Purple on Broadway

Bonnie DeShong and Ja'Vonne Harley will be heading off to the Big Apple to see Oprah Winfrey's new Broadway Hit, The Color Purple. They will be leaving for NY on Friday, February 3, 2006. TSA Permitted and Prohibited Items

I hope we are not getting too complacent with airport security. I travel via air several times each month and although security may slow things down, I am happy for the process. I am, like many of you confused by all the changes in what is and what is not allowed in carry-on, checked bags and what we may have in our pockets. Here is a test for you:

Which item are you not allowed to Carry-On an airplane?
_ Corkscrew
_ Metal Scissors
_ Knitting Needles
_ Nail File

Scissors that are metal and have pointed tips are not allowed as carry-ons, no matter what the size. All the others are allowed as carry-on or checked items in baggage on flights. Sports fanatics, leave the baseball bats,golf clubs and cricket bats in the Planes Cargo Hold. You can check them, but your prized, lucky putter will not be allowed to travel with you. Take up Tennis...Tennis racquets are ok.

Travel is one of the greatest joys. Seeing new places and meeting new people expands your mind. Be open to different cultures, food, people and enjoy.

Before you go...
Let your physician know of your trip. Your doctor can make recommendations for a safe and healthy trip. Ask about any necessary vaccinations. Make sure you have all, and the correct medications with you. Keep the copies of your prescriptions separate and secure. Your doctor can also tell you of any potentially dangerous interactions of your regular medications with medications for the trip.

What to pack...
You should pack and carry your own first aid kit. It should include basic medications like, Aspirin (pain reliever), antidiarrheals, antacids, band-aids and first aid cream. Include all of your prescribed mediactions, clear copies of the prescriptions and your doctors contact info as well as your emergency contact at home. Keep copies of the prescriptions, doctors information and emergency contact info separate in another secure area of your luggage. Your first aid kit with all medications should be in a convenient carry-on and with you at all times. Never pack needed medications in checked luggage.

On the Plane...
Avoid dehydration, drink plenty of water and go light on the alcohol. Enjoy new foods, but with common sense. Especially on long flights, you need to move around. Take a walk on the plane and chat with other travelers. Develop a plan of excersice, especially for your legs. Most inflight magazines have exersices you can do at your seat. On long flights, avoid being too sedentary.

On the ground...
Set your watch to the new time zone as soon as you take off. The flight will serve appropriate meals for the time. Get some rest and upon arrival, act appropriaetly for the local time zone. If you arrive in the morning, try and stay up until the late evening or night. This will help with acclimation and you will have a memorable trip.

Luggage Restrictions

We are constantly asked:
What are the size and weight restrictions for my luggage?

Since the Airlines luggage restrictions are going through a recent period of frequent change, you should check directly with your Airline as to size, weight and number of bags that you can check and carry-on. When you are on an Advantage International, LLC trip, you are only allowed one checked bag and one carry-on.

In many cases, the Airlines have added new limits on both carry-on and checked baggage. You should check, but most Airlines limit their carry-on bags to a range of 14" to 16" high, 21" to 24" wide, and 8" to 9" deep. The lower limits are for under seat storage and larger limits for the more generous overhead compartment. A 45" total (height+width+depth) can be used as a basic guideline to see if your bag will be allowed as a carry-on.

Most Airlines have a carry-on weight limit of 40 pounds and a checked baggage weight limit of 70 pounds and no more then 28". Many Airlines limits vary if you are taking a domestic or international flight, are flying first, business or coach class or if you are a member of their premium membership clubs.

All limits are much more strictly enforced then in the past. Bags are weighed at check-in and many Airlines have placed bag-sizers at their gates. If your carry-on bags are too big, you'll have to check them and that might cause them to be classified as "extra bags" which usually carries an extra charge. If you bags are too heavy, you can be charged a rather high overweight luggage charge or they can even be denied.

Also be careful and not overstuff your bags. A carry-on bag that is expanded or overstuffed may not fit in the overhead and will be required to be checked. This can lead to additional charges, delays or even lost baggage. Pack Light and Pack Tight, and remember it is not important how you look when you get there, it is that you get there. ICE - In Case of Emergency

A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in
their mobile phone's memory under the heading ICE (In Case of
Emergency), has rapidly spread throughout the world.

Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative
or next-of-kin in an emergency situation.

The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic
Bob Brotchie and was launched in May 2005. Bob, 41, who has been a
paramedic for 13 years, said: "I was reflecting on some of the calls
I've attended at the roadside where I had to look through the mobile
phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured
person. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone now, and with ICE we'd know immediately who to contact and what number to ring.
The person may even know of their medical history."

By adopting the ICE advice, your mobile will help the rescue services quickly contact a friend or relative - which could be vital in a life or
death situation. It only takes a few seconds to do, and it could easily
help save your life. Simply select your person to contact in case of
emergency, enter them under the word 'ICE' and the telephone number of the person you wish to be contacted.

It really could save your life, and put a loved one's mind at rest.

Carnival in Rio (Carnaval in Portugese)

With the World Fusion Music Program we are currently doing at Hard Rock, we are pleased to announce a new trip to Rio de Janiero for 2006 for Carnival. The trip will include ticket to the Samba School Carnaval Parade at the Sambodrome.

The Samba School Parade is the heart of Carnaval. Samba Schools work hard all year to compete. There will be upwards of 5000 performers in each Samba School. Each school has only 80 minutes to perform and to show off all their hard work that they have done for the past 365 days. The elaborate costuming and music work to describe the overall theme of each school. The inclusion of famous personalities from around the world adds to it. The Samba Parade is in a private perfomance theatre only available by tickets that are sold out as much as a year in advance.

The parades start at 7pm and it all ends at 5am, so get your sleep when you get home.

The trip will be from Friday, February 24 - March 3, 2006. We have built in Wed and Thursday just for relaxing, sleeping and recouperating. Then when you get home Friday, you can sleep all weekend...

How to Pack for a successful trip

The new rules are out and those of you who feel the need to bring your entire wardrobe on every trip are in trouble. Airlines are cutting back and allowing less weight and smaller bags on every flight, or simply enforcing the rules. This has reduced the weight of checked bags to as little as 50 pounds and even has airlines wieghing the carry-on bags. In some cases, it will cost you a bundle to check HEAVY bags and some flights will not take them at all. Before you give up on traveling, read the suggestions below and contact your airline to see what changes they have made. Remeber, if you travel with us, you can take one checked bag and one carry-on.

Before packing, make a list of everything that you want to take, including clothes and toiletries. That way, you're less likely to forget an item and have to purchase it at the destination, where it will probably cost you more than it would at home. This also helps to avoid over-packing.

Do not over-pack, especially in your carry-on items. That way, if you are chosen for a random search of your items, it will be quicker and easier for you to re-pack. Each airline has their own standards on the size/weight/amount of luggage that you can carry with you. Be sure to check with your airline before flying to ensure that you do not incur any surprise extra baggage costs at check-in. Advantage International, LLC group trips only allow one (1) checked bag and one (1) carry-on. NO EXCEPTIONS

You should never pack any of the following items: fireworks, flammable materials (including matches), drain cleaners, containers that are under pressure, weapons, anything that would be considered a "hazardous material" (for example, gas-powered tools).

PACKING YOUR CARRY-ON
You should always carry important documents and valuable items in your carry-on luggage. You'll especially want to keep your travel I.D. forms (passport and tickets) handy for going through the security checkpoints. You should also carry all medications with you in your carry-on luggage. Consider traveling with copies of your needed prescriptions as well as copies of your passport and credit cards separate and secure from the originals, also leave a set with someone at home. Carry your camera and film on the plane with you, as film can be damaged by the increased x-ray capabilities of machines that perform scans on checked baggage.

PACKING CHECKED LUGGAGE
Be sure to pack any sharp instruments in your checked luggage. Items like knives, scissors, metal nail files and box cutters cannot be carried onto the plane. If you have any sharp items that you need for medical purposes, be sure to have documentation from your physician. Put anything like shampoo, perfume, sunscreen, etc. into re-sealable plastic bags. That way, if any of them spill, it will keep the liquid contained and not soak any of your other personal items. To reduce wrinkling of shirts and pants, roll them up like a newspaper. Over-packing of luggage will cause excess wrinkling and damage to clothing.

WHILE AT THE AIRPORT
Keep your luggage with you at all times. Never allow anyone that you do not know to "watch" your luggage for you. Never carry anything for someone that you do not know, or watch a bag for someone that you do not know.

A MUST read for anyone traveling by air...
Following these tips will help you reduce your wait time at the security checkpoint.

Before the Airport

Do not pack or bring Prohibited Items to the airport. Read the Permitted and Prohibited Items list is available at http://www.tsa.gov/public/interapp/editorial/editorial_1012.xml.
Place valuables such as jewelry, cash and laptop computers in carry-on baggage only. Tape your business card to the bottom of your laptop.
Avoid wearing clothing, jewelry and accessories that contain metal. Metal items may set off the alarm on the metal detector.
Avoid wearing shoes that contain metal or have thick soles or heels. Many types of footwear will require additional screening even if the metal detector does not alarm.

Declare firearms & ammunition to your airline and place them in your checked baggage.

Do not bring lighters or prohibited matches to the airport.
Do not pack wrapped gifts and do not bring wrapped gifts to the checkpoint. Wrap on arrival or ship your gifts prior to your departure. TSA may have to unwrap packages for security reasons.

At the Airport
Each adult traveler needs to keep available his/her airline boarding pass and government-issued photo ID until exiting the security checkpoint. Due to different airport configurations, at many airports you will be required to display these documents more than once.
Place the following items IN your carry-on baggage or in a plastic bag prior to entering the screening checkpoint:
Mobile phones
Keys
Loose change
Money clips
PDA's (personal data assistants)
Large amounts of jewelry
Metal hair decorations
Large belt buckles
Take your laptop and video cameras with cassettes OUT of their cases and place them in a bin provided at the checkpoint.
Take OFF all outer coats, suit coats, jackets and blazers.

New Passport Requirements for Travelers Between the United States and the Western Hemisphere.
Travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada will be required to have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.
The travel initiative requirements will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed implementation timeline is as follows:
December 31, 2005 – Passport or other accepted document required for all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America.
December 31, 2006 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.
December 31, 2007 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air, sea and land border crossings.

On the Long Haul

The difference between coming off a 14 hour flight dragging or rearing to go is simple. It is how you prepare for it.

All of us are experienced Globe Trotters and we know that being prepared makes all the difference. The pre-trip orientations are great, but you need to have the basics to make getting there as much fun as being here.

Carry a Personal Comfort Kit with a pillow, a sleep mask, earplugs, lotions, and personal toiletry items. Grab a blanket and pillow as you get onboard.

Dress for comfort on the flight. Comfortable clothes and shoes. Nothing tight, but easy to move around in. Bring a possible change of clothing to arrive fresh.

Plan your own entertainment with cd's, mp3's, games and books.

Move around on the plane. Stretch at your seat and in the aisles. Do not be stagnant.

Drink plenty of fluids, avoid alcohol (Yes, Gene wrote this one). You can bring your own bottled water and snacks. Adjust yourself to the time at your final destination.

Enjoy the flight and the opportunity to develop your friendships. Rest on the flights and be ready to go when the plane arrives.

Egypt with a surprise!!! Athens

We are all back from the V-103 Ultimate Road to Freedom - Egypt, the Nubian Experience. What a great trip and a magnificent country.

We kicked off the trip with the addition of Athens. This allowed all to see the differences and similarities of Egypt and Greece. In both, we saw the history of civilization dating back more then 5000 years. In Egypt with Lake Nassar now open, we experienced cruising the lake all the way to famous Abu Simbel. The giant statues and temples awed all of us.

We toured hard, partied hard and left the typical positive impression of The Ultimate Road to all we met. All replys from Egypt have been how much fun we were and they hope to have other group like ours. We will remeber Egypt and Egypt will remeber us.

The picture party is coming soon and we all look forward to sharing our memories of this historical trip.

Travelers Insurance ???

It happens... Your prepared to go on that great vacation. You have planned and invested for it for months and like most of us, dreamed about it for years. PASSPORT TIPS ::

VALID PASSPORT
Be certain that your passport and visa is valid and signed. Don't forget to fill in the emergency information page of your passport. Your passport should remain valid for six months after your trip.

BASIC LAWS
Always know the local laws and customs of your country of destination. The Pre-Trip Orientation is an excellent resource. Also, look at the Advantage International, LLC Travel News page at www.Advantage-intl.com for resources.

AT LEAST TWO
Have 2 copies of your passport's identification and the countries visa page. It will make it easier to replace in case it's lost or stolen. Leave one copy with someone you trust and know, and the other should be kept with you in a different place other then your passport. Also travel with at least two passport size pictures securely stored separately from your passport.

TELL SOMEONE
Always leave a copy of your itinerary or phone number with family and friends back home. This way you can easily be reached in case of emergency. Consider a world cell phone or rental before you go to leave a phone number that you can be reached at.
